Stars walk red carpet for The Runaways

AUSTIN (KXAN) - Kristen Stewart, Dakota Fanning, and Joan Jett among the stars that appeared at the Paramount Theater.

The Austin premiere of "The Runaways" is part of the SXSW film festival.

"The Runaways" is a biopic about the lives of Joan Jett and Cherie Currie who started the same-titled all female punk band in the 1970's.

Director Floria Sigismondi is known as a music video producer for artists such as The White Stripes, Christina Aguilara, Marilyn Manson, and Bjork. This is her first feature film.

Joan Jett acted as executive producer of the film.

Stewart and Fanning appeared together in the recent "Twilight" film sequal, "New Moon". 

The R-rated film opens in select cities, including Austin, on Friday.

The SXSW film festival continues through Saturday night.
