AUSTIN (KXAN) - If you're able to hear by Tuesday night March 16th, you haven't gone to enough shows. Grab more beer, more friends, maybe that one hot girl and go to the Mohawk.
The official closing party features We are Scientists, The Sour Notes, Pase Rock, Casio Kids, and Marshal Barnes.
We are Scientists--self proclaimed nerds who opened for Kings of Leon last year-- have an upbeat sound, a bit on the poppy side, but not entirely unlikable if you're too much of a tough guy. You've probably heard them before in a couple of TV background song premieres. One of their most famous songs, After Hours, has the ascending optimistic "running up a hill at night" feel. Ten bucks and a beer they close SXSW with this track.
The Sour Notes were recently featured in The Austin Chronicles' SXSW showcase page. The new CD It's Not Gonna Be Pretty is good. The album's first track "Beyond Recognition" has a slow-beat pop synth feel with a degree of casuality and sweetness in the repetitive phrases "it's alright" and "it's you and me girl."
On the downside, if you've ever listened to Something Corporate growing up in high school and are past that phase, there might be a slight undertow in the sounds of these bands that will chafe you're already bleeding ears. It's no Metallica, but if you can only chew Bubblicious so long, swim diagonally.
Doors open at 9p.m. The show is all ages and accepts film or interactive badge holders only.
