AUSTIN (KXAN) - Before movies or television, most people were entertained with radio programs.

Many times, those radio programs were performed before a live audience.

Now, an Austin group has transformed a graphic novel into a live performance that's premiering at the Long Center this weekend.

"So, this weekend we have the world premiere of the 'Intergalactic Nemesis' live action graphic novel," said Jason Neulander, creator of the 'Intergalactic Nemesis.'

With a two-story screen, three actors, a foley artist and keyboardist, the pages of the 'Intergalactic Nemesis ' are coming to life.

"We're taking a really amazing audio experience and combining it with this really amazing visual experience to give it just becomes a spectacle," said Neulander.

Neulander created the show as an on-stage radio project back in the 90s.

He took the radio show, turned it into a graphic novel and decided to add the visuals from the comic book into the show.

"Three actors play literally dozens of characters in the show," said Neulander.

Yet, one of the most impressive aspects are the sound effects.

"Every space ship, every laser gun, everything is performed before your eyes," said Neulander. "There are hundreds of sound effects in the show. Many of them are done in ways that surprise you when you are listening to them."

It's certainly a unique way to enjoy a graphic novel.

"It's completely and totally 100 percent an Austin original," said Neulander.

The 'Intergalactic Nemesis' Live Action Graphic Novel takes place at the Long Center Friday and Saturday .

Tickets start at $14.
