AUSTIN (KXAN) - Animals at the Austin Zoo are being kept warm during the freezing temperatures, but the goats aren't as lucky. Due to their size and relatively thick winter coats, the goats are staying in the petting zoo pen while the other animals are brought inside.

The zoo brought Rudy the goat to the Austin News Today studios and talked about the petting zoo they have for kids and adults who want to get up close and personal with these lovable creatures.

The Austin Zoo is unique in that they buy no animals, but instead house and take care of rescues or donated animals that were once pets. Rudy was a pet until the owner couldn't care for him anymore. He now joins dozens of other goats at the Austin Zoo and gets along great with people.

Watch out though - he has a hearty appetite!

As a non-profit, the zoo depends on donations to save lives. Check out their website to see how you can donate money or items you already have at home.
