KXAN (AUSTIN) - Kids can take control of their own healthy eating thanks to a new menu at Hyatt restaurants.

Their new "For Kids By Kids" menu invited children into the kitchen. Kids helped develop the healthy menu that is interactive.

Instead of simply serving a meal, the restaurant is using colorful shakers to let kids play an important role in the meal.

On Thursday, Hyatt chef Paul French showed how kids can help make a shaken chopped salad.

Shaken chopped salad

  • 0.5 ounce: Celery, diced
  • 0.5 ounce: Carrot, shredded
  • 1 ounce: Apple, diced
  • 0.5 ounce: Golden raisin
  • 3 ounce: Napa cabbage shredded
  • 0.5 ounce: Cucumber, peeled & diced
  • 0.25 ounce: Almonds, toasted
  • 0.5 cup: Brown Rice, cooked
  • 2 ounce: Roasted chicken breast, diced
  • 2 ounce: Yogurt basil dressing
  • 8 ounce: Low fat Milk

Directions

  • Place all ingredients, except dressing, in the bowl. Serve dressing on the side.
  • Kids add their own dressing and shake the salad to mix.
