Film festival releases first list of 10

AUSTIN (KXAN) - The Austin Film Festival has revealed an early list of films to be shown. The 10 films announced will be a part of the 2012 Austin Film Festival lineup and will compete for Oscars.

The first film mentioned is an action-packed drama by Robest Zemekis. The film entitled "Flight" stars Denzel Washington who plays an experienced airline pilot involved in a collision. He is hailed a hero after he manages to get the plane safely on the ground. The twist in the plot comes when questions arise about what really happened and who was involved.

Other films named in the lineup include:

  • "It's a Disaster" directed by Todd Berger, starring Julia Stiles, America Ferrera and David Cross
  • "Free Samples" starring Jess Weixler and Jesse Eisenberg
  • "Shadow Dancer" starring Clive Owen
  • "Rising from Ashes" a documentary about a national cycling team in Rwanda
  • "To Kill a Memory" starring Kix Brooks
  • "Spinning Plates," a documentary about three different restaurants and the challenges they face
  • "Pictures of Superheroes," a comedy starring Kerri Lendo and John Merrian
  • "Last Will & Testament," a documentary on the real ownership of Shakespearean works.

The Austin Film Festival and Conference runs from Oct. 18 to Oct. 25. It was founded in 1993 by Barbara Morgan and Marsha Milam.
