LAKE TRAVIS (KXAN) - We've heard about it and now it's here. And Aquapalooza is a doozy.
It's a massive two-day concert on Lake Travis accessible only by boat. It's at the 22-mile marker near Reserve on the Lake.
Some 5,000 boats and 30,000 people are expected to attend on Friday and Saturday. And arrive early, they did.
"We got here at 6:30 a.m. so we could get a good spot. We're staying until Sunday," said Zack Praytor.
Austin’s Bill Rice Band started a day of live music on Friday.
There are reserved rope tie-ups for 2,000 boats; all others will need to drop their own anchors. Constant shuttle buses will bring people onto land to visit the food stands or port-a-potties.
The security patrol is heavy with Lower Colorado River Authority, Texas Rangers, sheriff's deuties and game wardens on duty.
There is even a fellow dressed as Batman, riding a black jet ski with "bat fins" on the back. "I'm patrolling to keep everyone safe. So far it's been excellent," "Batman" said.
About 500 boats had already streamed in to Lake Travis on Friday afternoon to start the amphibious music festival happening both on the land and on the water
A heavy rain began to fall on the festival in the early afternoon, but revelers didn't seem to let it bother them.
With 100 locations around the world this month, organizers say 15,000 boats and 84,000 revelers are expected to attend. Austin is the "signature event." It's the fifth year the event has been celebrated, but the first year for Austin.
Organizer Sail and Ski , which "won" the festival after having a banner business year, hired “First Medical Response” to handle injuries, and distress calls.
Jerrod Niemann is the main performer Friday night.
Brad Paisley takes the big stage Saturday and if there is rain, the event will be postponed to Sunday.
