AUSTIN (KXAN) - The 18th annual Austin Film Festival officially kicks off Thursday.
During the next eight days some of the biggest names in Hollywood will come through Austin to premiere their movies.
Johnny Depp will be in for his new one called "The Rum Diary."
Mira Sorvino is coming in for her film "Union Square."
And Mike Judge will re-introduce "Beavis and Butthead" to the next generation of MTV fans.
In all, 200 films from shorts to features and documentaries will be shown during the festival.
In the months leading up the event, organizers went through 3,000 film submissions to decide which ones should be a part of the event.
"We have to narrow it down to what films have great narrative content since we are a writers' festival and how those all play together," said Barbara Morgan, Austin Film Festival director.
The opening night film is called "Butter" and it stars Jennifer Garner and Hugh Jackman.
