AUSTIN (KXAN) - Jayne Jones and Alicia Long became friends sharing a desk as Congressional staffers. Now they share a byline in their new book, "Capitol Hell."
According to Jones and Long, the book is "juicy, saucy, entertaining and sometimes embellished." The duo both came to Washington DC as young naive staffers and lived to tell about it, gathering dirt and anecdotes that would eventually make their way into their first book.
"It'll make you laugh out loud, we promise," Jones said.
The book's main characters are, shall we say, strikingly similar to the authors. All are from small towns and have careers in politics. But they're not saying which parts are fact and which parts are fiction.
Both women have worked with US Senator Norm Coleman, who was, surprisingly, a potential candidate for president at one point. Coleman lost his seat in Congress after a protracted ballot battle with former-comedian-turned-politician Al Franken.
Long said during your time in the capitol you are sometimes asked to do things you wouldn't be expected to do in any other office, "Whether you're walking the senators dog or buying the senators wife lingerie," Long said.
