AUSTIN (KXAN) - Powerful music came to Downtown Austin Thursday night. They were last in town in March.

The internationally acclaimed African Children's Choir" performed at Lustre Pearl, located at 97 Rainey St.

They -- along with Austin favorites Carolyn Wonderland, Guy Forsyth, and Patrice Pike -- sang to raise money for Music For life, a program helping children in Africa. The show was emceed by KXAN news anchor Leslie Rhode.

The first African Children's Choir came to North America in 1984. Since that time, the organization says thousands of lives have been changed due to the group's efforts.

The group performs at various venues across the U.S. and other countries, and each of the children are mentored and cared for by aunties and uncles who greet them upon arrival and serve as chaperones.
