AUSTIN (KXAN) - The SXSW Film Conference and Festival is expanding each year. The film section of the festival is now underway with audiences enjoying the creations on the big screen. One of the films being shown this year is Breaking Upwards, a twisted breakup story inspired by a real-life relationship. Daryl Wein came by KXAN to give some insight on his film that he directed and acted in.
Breaking Upwards is a fresh look at a 20-something relationship that is jeopardized by opening up the bedroom. Wein says that the relationship in the movie is based on an open relationship that he shared with his girlfriend, who plays his girlfriend on screen. The movie explores a year of the relationship that deals with love, lust and codependency.
This film was shot over the course of 45 days, on and off, in New York City – specifically Brooklyn. The reason Wein noted for shooting off and on, the actors are theatre actors with difficult schedules. This film can be seen three times starting Saturday.
