AUSTIN (KXAN) - One of Austin's biggest Tech firms is pairing up with Ballet Austin -- 3M, the company that makes everything from tape to high-end computer chips, will commission an original dance work from the ballet's creative director Stephen Mills.
The project won't be ready for some time, but Mills says it will premiere in Austin and will help bridge the gap between science and the arts.
" 3M Corporation is very interested in the way art science and technology think about creativity and innovation and how they overlap. That project will be coming up in a while," Mills said.
Mills says the finished project is still years from completion but to expect some pretty cool stuff.
The dance company is busy gearing up for this weekend's performance of the "Taming of the Shrew."
Performances are on Friday night or Saturday night at the Long Center. There is also a matinee performance on Sunday at 3 p.m.
