The actual audition day process is a lot of fun.
Doors open at 8 a.m., although people line up early. We encourage everyone to show up in full costume and with friends and family so the day one turnout is incredible. We're expecting to see thousands of acts on day one alone in Austin, not including the numbers they will bring with them to support.
Everyone passes through a registration checkpoint where they are assigned a contestant number. Camera crews will rally contestants during the morning for group shots and extra video footage, and then everyone hangs out and rehearses across several holding rooms. Several audition rooms are set up with producers, and each contestant is given 90 seconds to show us what they can do.
The excitement and buzz makes for a great experience for everyone, and most people can plan to be there for at least a few hours.
These auditions do not include the show judges. This round is just the first open audition process with producers.
The event this year will be at the Austin Convention Center, 500 E. Cesar Chavez St., Austin, TX 78701
January 14 and 15
8 a.m. - 7 p.m.
