AUSTIN (KXAN) - On Saturday's Weekend Gardener, John Dromgoole discussed foliar feeding with organic, liquid fertilizers to wake up your spring gardens and get them off to a nice, healthy start.
Dromgoole recommends using a combination of fish emulsion and seaweed for both your perennials and annuals. Fish emulsion provides readily available nutrients while seaweed contains trace minerals and important plant hormones that stimulate rooting, promote flowering, and help in preventing diseases and pests. Regular use of this mix will also help your plants to build tolerance to both hot and cold weather.
You can mix your own John’s Recipe by following the recipe found at his website
There are many great products out there, be sure to read the labels for the correct amount to use, Dromgoole said.
