Shred Day is a free opportunity for local consumers and businesses to reduce the potential for identity theft. It’s also an opportunity to help the environment. There’s free on-site document shredding, as well as cardboard, cell phone and computer recycling.
At the last event in April, Austin consumers and businesses securely shredded and recycled more than 25 tons of personal papers, computer parts and cardboard.
According to the Consumer Sentinel Network, more than 1,300 Austin-area consumers filed identity theft complaints in 2011. BBB Shred Day is an opportunity to gain peace of mind as old credit card and bank statements, utility bills, business invoices and other documents containing personal information are shredded and recycled by NAID certified document destruction specialists.
BBB’s final Shred Day of the year takes place on Saturday, Oct. 20 from 9am to noon at Dell’s Round Rock Campus. Shredding and recycling services will be available until the end of the event or until the shred trucks reach capacity. The first 500 cars will also receive a free Shred Day goodie bag.
Please limit your materials to no more than two boxes or bags per vehicle. Monetary donations benefiting BBB Education Foundation will also be accepted.
Visit austin.bbb.org/shred for more information.
BBB and KXAN are looking forward to seeing you there!
