Voters to decide on civil service panel

Two charter amendments opposed by city manager

AUSTIN (KXAN) - Austin is the last major city in Texas without a civil service commission for city employees.

Joe Deshotel was in the KXAN studio to discuss why a civil service commission might be a good idea for Austin and how it could cut down on legal expenses for the city.

Propositions 10 and 11 are backed by the city employee labor union . It is opposed by City Manager Marc Ott, who said the cost of creating such a program could rise to the millions.
