Cool floor tile welcome in 100-degree heat

AUSTIN (KXAN) - Austin Pets Alive! has found a way to keep the pets waiting for adoption cool at locations around the city where the dogs are on display as they wait for new homes:  keep 'em inside.

PetSmart has agreed to swap spots and allow the animals to be inside on the cool tile floor, while moving the shopping carts outside. APA! has the fenced area for the pets inside the store's entryway, comfortable for the animals in the air conditioning.

Before the 100-degree days hit Central Austin, APA! regularly positioned the portable fencing in the shade outside the various stores. The shady spots are still too hot for the animals, and moving them inside was the next smartest thing.

Friday APA! was due to receive 30 more adoptable pets from the Bastrop County Humane Society, so there is no shortage of animals in Austin for individuals who are thinking of adding a new member of the family.

The APA! fundraiser "Pubs for Pups Pub Crawl" set for Saturday is sold out, but donations to the nonprofit organization are always accepted.
