AUSTIN (KXAN) - The need for foster and adoptive families is great, both in Central Texas and across the state.

The latest numbers are these: A total of 165 children available for adoption in Travis County, along with 250 across Central Texas and 6,300 children statewide. A total of 30,000 children are in foster care in the state, of which 600 are located in Central Texas.

For those who are interested, the Department of Family and Protective Services will host a seminar for prospective parents on Jan. 8. The meeting will be held at the DFPS Office, 14000 Summit Drive, Suite 100.
