How to pick the right Christmas tree

New options for artificial, real holiday trees

AUSTIN (KXAN) - Garden supervisor Sam Samudio was in the KXAN News studio on Sunday morning to show us some options for real and artificial trees for the holiday season.

Samudio, of the Home Depot, showed off a couple of artificial trees, which generally last about a decade. New innovations in artificial trees means that the trees are easier to assemble and shape. Some even include their own LED lights installed or foot pedals that can turn tree lights on and off.

Garden centers offer a variety of "real" Christmas trees for selection. Home Depot offers three different selections, which vary primarily by height and needle length. Trees should be kept in a cool corner, if possible, and should last from four to six weeks if properly cut and watered every day, Samudio said.
