AUSTIN (KXAN) - Maria Trirogoff, a nephrologist with the Austin Diagnostic Clinic, was on KXAN News on Saturday morning, talking about kidney disease.

March is National Kidney Month. Trirogoff said symptoms of kidney disease often are hard to diagnose. The kidney, which is shaped like a bean and the size of a fist, act as the body’s filtering system.

Chronic Kidney Disease, CKD, is common. CKD is a gradual loss of kidney function, often due to high blood pressure and diabetes.

More than 20 million people over the age of 20 have CKD. The disease can be detected by lab tests.
