AUSTIN (KXAN) - Students from the Austin Community College will show off their engineering skills at Barkitecture, an event that creates and auctions custom dog houses to benefit rescue organizations.

Barkitecture will take place on 2nd Street behind City Hall, where the doghouses will be displayed for bidding. According to Barkitecture, Austin's best and brightest architects, designers and builders are competing. Members of ACC's American Society of Engineering Education chapter spent a year building its doghouse, which Liam Cummings said was inspired by architect Frank Lloyd Wright .

All materials the ACC students used on the project were either donated or recycled.

Weathercaster Jim Spencer will be among the judges at Barkitecture.

The event, from noon to 4 p.m., is free and open to the public. For more information, visit the Barkitecture website .
