Sanders, Maxwell earn promotions

AUSTIN (KXAN) - KXAN News on Monday announced two promotions on the anchor desk.

Robert Maxwell, who has co-anchored KXAN News today alongside Sally Hernandez since March, is taking the helm of the 9 p.m. newscast on KXAN's sister station, The CW. Maxwell will also join the KXAN Investigative Team and become the lead reporter for the station's 10 p.m. newscast.

Meanwhile, Brian Sanders will move from his role as the anchor of the weekend edition of KXAN Today to the Emmy-winning Monday-Friday broadcast with Hernandez effective Dec. 20.

Both said they anxious to begin their new roles.

"I get to work with some amazing people at KXAN,” said Sanders, who also has worked as a KXAN weekend sports anchor and sports reporter, and more recently as a news reporter. “And what’s more, we get to build a relationship with our viewers every morning. 

"Our goal is to be the number-one source for news, weather, and traffic, and hopefully share some light-hearted moments along the way.  I’m excited about this next step in my career and grateful to be an active part of a growing Austin community.”

Maxwell takes on his new duties on Jan. 7.

“I am excited to connect with our growing evening news audience,” said Maxwell. “I know there are many stories, both significant and relevant to central Texans that we'll be investigating in the coming months. And I'm proud to play a role in that process with the talented and dedicated team at KXAN and CW Austin.”

Maxwell’s passion for covering news has led to exciting television reporting and anchoring roles in Toronto and at the ABC affiliates in Orlando, Florida and Salt Lake City, Utah. Robert broke a number of significant stories including one that led to reforms in how law enforcement is trained. Another dealt with public employees generating fake documents at a Driver License Division office.

Sanders joined KXAN in September 2006. He was promoted to anchor of KXAN News Today Weekends in March after transitioning from covering local sports to local news. The transition has allowed Sanders to become a strong anchor/reporter for the KXAN News team.

A Texas A&M graduate, Sanders has worked covering many sports and news stories including the Circuit of the Americas ribbon-cutting ceremony this year, where he got to ride in a Formula One car around the track.

Brian is from Houston. His on-air television career began in San Angelo at KSAN.
