AUSTIN (KXAN) - KXAN News announced Monday that Chad Cross has been hired as KXAN's news director. Cross comes to KXAN from a dominant No. 1 news station, KWCH-CBS, in Wichita, Kan.

As news director, Cross has created an award-winning investigative team and launched newscasts at 7 a.m., 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. He started a Spanish news operation on the local Univision affiliate and led many digital initiatives, including innovative news and weather apps and a high school sports website.

“We are extremely excited to have Chad as part of the team,” said Eric Lassberg, KXAN rresident and general manager. “He has a proven track record of journalistic excellence, integrity and leadership.”

Under his leadership, the Wichita station won a regional Edward R. Murrow award for best newscast this year, and is nominated for a regional Emmy for news excellence.

"I know viewers can tell which stations have journalistic integrity and go the extra mile in their reporting," said Chad Cross. "That's why I'm grateful to be leading the outstanding team at KXAN."

Cross earned a Bachelor of Journalism degree from the University of Texas, and his career in television news started in Austin. His first day at KXAN will be Aug. 13.
